Vintage Vol 1 by Lisa Suzanne
Series: Vintage, book #1
Genre: contemporary romantic suspense
Born the daughter of a rock star and his groupie, my life should have been full of glitz and glamour. But the excess and embarrassment of that life didn’t interest me. Instead, I killed time at Vintage, a record store where I stocked shelves and lacked ambition.
Everything changed the moment I pressed play. One simple lyric awakened me.
When I stopped denying my attraction to the man behind the music, I started questioning his intentions. We were meant to cross paths, but it wasn’t because of fate.
Someone was playing with our lives.
This books started out super strong for me. I settled in on the lounge and was getting really into it until the ‘hero’ opened his mouth. A huge turn off for me is when the hero, Parker tries to make a woman jealous by saying (and I’m paraphrasing) ‘I can shove my dick into any woman’s mouth but I want it in yours’. Yep … there was no redeeming himself after that. I was so annoyed that I even told a book buddy that “I just don’t think I can go on. I hate not being able to relate to characters” but forced myself to forge on.
I wish I could say that the heroine Roxanna saved it for me but the more I read about her, the more frustrated and disconnected from her I became. I’m not sure if it was the intention of the author to make an ungrateful and disenchanted heroine that has everything handed to her but is still not happy, but that’s what she gave us. She’s a very privileged girl but in reality – a woman working part time in a music store would not be able to afford the Porsche or the fancy apartment in the best part of LA.
Relationships are hard enough without all the other outside factors of lovers past, careers and nutbag stalkers thrown into the mix. This is where the struggle lies for me, when the characters make me want to put the book down, it falls to the storyline and the authors writing to get me over the line. The suspense is great but you never actually find out what the issue is and the ending was very abrupt. So abrupt that I had to reread it to make sure I didn’t miss anything. That author can write, there are just some traits of the characters that disappoint me and make it hard for me to gel with the storyline and care about what happens to them.
As much as I was disappointed by this book, I’m keen to see what else this author can do.
I received a copy of this book for my honest opinion.
