Love him, or loathe him — there is no denying that Lucas Wellington is eye candy at its finest.
Lucas Wellington has tried relationships, tried so hard he dated two girls at one time and paid the cost dearly when they caught him red-handed. Now Luke is back to his bachelor ways and enjoying all it has to offer, that is, until he literally gets ran over by one woman who won’t give him the time of day. Determined to get this new challenge beneath him in bed, Luke pulls out all the stops until he is successful. But when Luke realizes that Julianna’s hold on him is just as strong he panics.
Julianna Grimaldi is the physical therapist for the Denver Broncos and has heard all about the one and only Luke Wellington. Having witnessed his destruction first hand, she is immune to all of his charm and charisma, or at least that’s what she thinks. Trying with all her might to spare her heart she resists Luke at every turn, but eventually he tears down her walls and makes her see that there may be more to the Denver Playboy than meets the eye.
The question remains though, will Luke fall back on old habits and break Julianna’s heart or will he finally meet his match and find love.
I cannot gush enough of how much I have wanted to read this book and when I was kindly given an ARC – my kids had to ask me what I was screaming about. I am honoured to share my thoughts on this book. If I could give this book 10 stars out of five – I would.
I have been a keen advocate for this series since I read Hourglass. I was camp “Loathe Luke” ( I need a button with that on it!) I loved to hate Luke … or Lucas … or whichever name he used to woo as many women as he could. He popped his head up in Hourglass Squared like the little weasel he is to show he was still around but this book is dedicated solely to him. Well, he’d like you think it’s all about him! I was clapping my hands wildly because I wanted to see him walk away with his tail between those sexy legs … wait … focus Karen. Nowhere did I say he wasn’t attractive – it’s what he does that makes him unattractive.
So, right off the bat, where I was hoping Luke would have changed his wild ways, alas, he hasn’t learned his lesson (more fool me!). If anything, he defends what he did in Hourglass.
(Smarmy bastard). I think the authors have hit their stride when it comes to villains. I was thinking he needs to be taken down a peg or five and meet his match. Don’t get me wrong – their characters are great, relatable and personable but to evoke a snarl from me when his name and being comes to memory, that’s something else!
KS Smith and Megan Smith have written an awesome asshole but the character they created with Julianna blew my expectations out of that water. She’s better than I could have imagined. Her wit, her candour and her ability to put him in his place is sublime. I was laughing out loud and giving her a proverbial high five for every tongue lashing she gave. This is probably a good time to mention – don’t read this book at work or in public places. You will get stared at.
Supporting characters are just as witty and add to the direction and meat of the story; I really dislike when there are characters that say a few lines but don’t add any substance but this book has none of that. I loved Eric and I’m hoping the planets align and he gets a story. Not surprisingly didn’t walk away with the same glowing thoughts of Caleb, he’s a carbon copy of Luke when he’s in douchetard mode.
Joining forces, these authors are formidable. It’s horrible to compare but I originally saw them as the cousin of Christina Lauren but now, they are a front runner for my favourite writing duo. They have become automatic buys for their combined and sole works. I am thrilled to know there is another book in the works – even though this series is now finalised with this book *sob*, there’s another series in the works.
I was kindly given an ARC for my honest opinion. This is no way shape or form has contributed to my opinion. This is a bloody good book and I stand by it!
