Jacinta’s story takes place seven years after the day Brooke and Logan Cavanagh saved her from the violent clutches of her father. Her mother has now remarried and Jacinta has a new step-brother, Connor, whom she is adores.
After Jacinta’s step-brother Connor, moves to Sydney, she decides to move back there to live with him.
She is still so damaged from her violent past that, at twenty years of age, she has never had a serious boyfriend, and is still a virgin. So her best friend, Cassie, convinces her to have a one-night stand with a stranger before her 21st birthday.
The next day, Jacinta is surprised to find she’s actually upset that she will never see him again, but would not take back the memories of that night for anything. She also feels that she is way too damaged to ever have a serious relationship anyway.
Unbeknownst to her, their paths will cross again. Will the attraction she felt that night still be there? Or will she regret it ever happened?
Mason doesn’t do relationships…ever. He has sex with random women, often. When he meets Jacinta, though, things change. He finds there is a deep connection between them that he just can’t explain.
When she does something that not only leaves him feeling crushed, but extremely pissed, he is left feeling lost. He doesn’t even know her real name and has no way of finding her.
But when fate brings them together again, will he be able to forgive her for what she did? Or will he forget about that one night they spent together and go back to his playboy ways?
*This book is part of the Destiny Series based on a character in My Forever. It is a standalone book. If you’d like to find out Jacinta’s background story I suggest you read My Destiny and My Forever first.
I asked the author … ‘will my heart hold up to this story?’ and she tricked me. She said ‘yes’. But I’m here to say it didn’t. My heart could not ache any more for these characters. There were times where I was holding my breath and couldn’t stop the tears from running.
I picked the wrong time to read this book. I had ten minutes spare at the beginning of my day so I started. Then I had to put it down. Then the characters were calling me all day. Finally, I was able to come back to it. I was dog tired. You know that kind of tired – the one where you are snuggled in bed and reading with one eye because the book sucked you in and you cannot stop – yeah – that was me. Hubster came in and removed said book that was lying over my face (can’t get much closer to the story than that hey) as I was long lost in the land of nod. The next day, the first thing I woke to was ‘where’s my book!?’ Yep – sucked me in that much. It’s rare to find books these days that can get that kind of hold on me – so when they do – I revel in them.
I don’t even know how to put how much I enjoyed this book into words. Jacinta won me over in book two and was so stoked to know she was getting her own chance to tell her story. This book holds incredible highs and devastating, heart shattering lows. Not only did I fall in love with the two lead characters – but all of them. They all have a special story to tell and JL has told their story with finesse.
Jacinta’s a perfectly flawed character. She has a belief system that’s held her in safety for years. Those boundaries are firmly in place till she meets Mason. Mason is delicious. He’s determined and has his own system that he works by. There are many laugh out loud moments, as there are frustrating outcomes for the characters.
I loved the story flow and even though there are several flash back sequences, they certainly added to the story. I really enjoyed the addition of the supporting characters storylines and insight. Again, I text JL saying ‘Please confirm this’ to which she replied ‘You really want me to tell you?’
I said My Forever was a whirlwind of a book – scratch that – this book is. There are strong supporting characters and again, their stories have been intertwined throughout this one to give an extra emotional punch.
JL Perry has hit the nail on the head with this book. She has the right balance of tension, drama, love, lust, complications and closures. Please don’t think that this is a downer book, far from it, there were many times that I was laughing out loud and I didn’t want the story to end.
I damned near cried at one ultra-romantic scene and couldn’t stop grinning. This is certainly a story I was thinking about long after I finished it. Highly recommend it.
