Can’t Stay Away by Lilly Avalon
Series: stand alone
Genre: contemporary romance
Piper Winchester is fresh out of college. With only three weeks until her father remarries and five weeks until her first business venture launches, she’s got her hands full. She certainly doesn’t need any distractions to get in the way of building the future her father’s always wanted for her. But when a familiar boy with bright green eyes walks back into her life, she’s thrown for a loop.
Four years ago, Chase MacKenzie left for college without looking back. He didn’t mean to disturb the peace then, and he definitely doesn’t want to do that now. Once he lays his eyes on Piper again, there’s no way he can leave without fixing what went wrong in the past. Although she’s more determined than ever to push him away, he still manages to get under her skin. Regardless of what happens between them, there’s one thing that will always be standing in their way…
He’s about to become her stepbrother.
In fairness, I have to make a statement. I have vehemently avoided step romances – for one – they are nothing taboo. They are not related, I don’t see why it’s considered a ‘thing’. Having got that off my chest, it’s purely for this author that I’m reading this book and I’m so glad I did.
Lilly Avalon is the master of writing beautiful romances. Piper, as much as she won’t admit it, is existing. She’s been harped and badgered by her father into giving up anything she has a passion for. When she first met Chase, her soon to be stepbrother, she fell hard and when he left, he took a big chunk of her soul with him.
Now he’s returned for his mother’s wedding to Piper’s father and they pick up right where they left off. The one thing I love about this story is that despite the hurt, the distrust and the bullying to keep them apart, they are perfectly suited for each other and in that, Chase ignites Piper’s zest for life. She starts to live and through that, she speaks up for herself and what she wants out of life.
Despite being told she’s off limits by her father, Chase can’t restrain his love for her anymore. The supporting characters with Piper’s friends are witty and add depth to the story. I adored some of the banter.
The sex scenes are hot and has left me wanting more from this couple. Lilly is the mistress of tease. She creates characters that you can’t help but fall in love with and I didn’t want this story to end. So, Lilly, you have me right where you want me. On my knees, asking for a continuation of their story.
I got this book for free for my honest opinion, getting this book for free has not swayed my thoughts in anyway.
