For so long, UFC Middleweight fighter, Camden Jameson lived in his twin brother’s shadow, competing to be the best. When he lost his way, he turned to the Dark Side and did some unforgiveable things. After his betrayal, he tried to earn his redemption, but it wasn’t enough. Now his whole world has fallen apart and he’s on the run from those who want him dead. But he’s not alone.
Undercover agent, Brooklyn Avery, has been assigned to Camden’s case, to watch and protect him. For months, she’s been in the shadows, keeping her distance. All of that changes when the mission takes a dangerous turn and she needs to get closer to protect him. Their love is forbidden, but once they see past each other’s scars, they realize they have what it takes to heal the other. Unfortunately, Camden still has a price to pay for his sins.
Lives will be lost, some will be damaged, and a dark, hidden secret will be revealed. In the end, Camden finally learns what it means to put everything on the line for love, even if it costs him.
This book is walking a fine line for me. I have a hate for Camden that knows no bounds. He is a dead soul and I just don’t know how he can redeem himself. I was both excited and horrified by this book being about him. Excited to see what Dover would make him do so he can in fact redeem himself and horrified that he might actually be able to change my view of him.
The things Camden has done are just unredeemable but I guess what they say in a 12 step program – you have to hit the rock bottom to find your way again. Camden is on his bottom. He’s lower than his rock bottom and he hasn’t got a clue that detective Brooklyn has been watching him hit his lowest point over and over.
Now that Camden has nothing and he’s on the run, he really has a clear look of how lonely his life has become. He has a handful of people he can call friends and for the first time in his life, he’s not treating a woman like a second rate citizen. I even had to tell myself a couple of times ‘no wait – you are reading about Camden. You hate Camden Karen!’
The action hasn’t stopped in this book. There are many spine tingling moments and Camden truly is a changed man. The proof is in the way he behaves around Brooklyn. Yes, old behaviours are bubbling under the surface but he’s ready and willing to try and make good. He just had to change his perception of himself. If it wasn’t for Brooklyn’s character, I think this book would have been a wash. I love her doggedness, I love her spark and her commitment to her man. I do think Camden got let off lightly when it comes to Ryley and Ashleigh but the ball’s in his court. He has to act like a decent human and he will be fine. He still doesn’t have 100% of my trust – let’s just say I’m weary of him but I’m glad he’s finally getting his happy ending.
I say it after every book but this series just gets better and better.
