How exciting and congratulations – you have written the famous ‘THE END’, having poured your heart and soul onto the pages and now, you feel a little lost. The nerves start to set it. You want everyone to love your story as much as you do and a good way to ensure you have a winner for the shelves is to have a beta reader. I include beta reading in the editing side of my services.
Think of a beta reader as a critique partner. A beta reader is someone who offers a second opinion on the overall story and looks for plot falls, character development, story consistency and any other points that can improve your work from good to great. It can sometimes be a bitter pill to swallow but a writer has to be realistic. If someone is not happy with the product they have paid for, they will have no qualms in pointing out every little flaw.
To have a subjective commentary on your work, you need a beta reader. Many of you might ask you friends and family to have a look over your masterpiece and hear the famous words ‘I love it’. That’s great that they love your work, but they haven’t given you constructive advice on how to improve you work and unfortunately, that’s where a reader who is not your friend or your family member will leave less than stellar reviews.
I offer an honest opinion about the works and offer suggestions of flow, character growth, storyline and plot for the almost completed manuscript. I want your work to be the best it can possibly be. My comments are honest and constructive and would be as if I were leaving a live review on your published work. I prefer completed manuscripts to beta but understand there might be some areas that have you stumped – it’s my job to help you through those areas. I offer just a beta service or it can be combined with editing / proofreading service.
